2011 IRON DOG Competition

     On May 18, 2011, the Virginia Police Canine Association hosted their 11th Annual Iron Dog Competition at the Great Meadow Event Center in The Plains. The event featured over 30 entrants from jurisdictions all over Northern Virginia, and included some Military Working Dogs. Canine and handlers competed in a 1-1/2 mile course containing multiple categories such as criminal apprehension, muzzle, firearms, narcotics/explosive searches, and many other evolutions. Each event station was timed and the overall course completion was timed. Awards were based on total points accrued for each event station as well as time for each station and the overall course time. There was also a Team Award given for the top teams as their overall times were calculated for overall course times, each team was comprised of a 3-person team.
